Rewatching The King’s Avatar – Yang Yang’s TV Drama Review

We are in the midst of a pandemic and my family is looking for yet another drama to watch while staying home. And that’s how I wound up rewatching the 2019’s drama, The King’s Avatar (全职高手, quan zhi gao shou).

Ye Xiu (Yang Yang) is a well known top tier player in an online game Glory. After being forcefully expelled out of his professional team, he was employed in an Internet Cafe as an odd-job worker. From there, he formed a team made up of nobodies and fought his way back to the top of the professional scene.

The drama is based on an online novel with 1700+ chapters by Butterfly Blue (蝴蝶蓝). There is also an anime (with 3 seasons, I believe) released in 2017. Before we proceed with the drama review, I just need to strongly recommend the novel (now fully translated in English!) and the anime!

I chanced upon the anime while browsing youtube and was thoroughly absorbed by it even though fighting and e-sport was totally not my thing then. The anime piqued my interest and I started reading the novel – it was a long and arduous journey but I loved every moment of it! My love for The King’s Avatar transcended to the point where I braved the chinese raws when I reached the end of the english translations then.

With my love for The King’s Avatar (全职高手), I have a few draft posts of The King Avatar lying around but I never got around to publishing them due to procrastination. Here’s an excerpt:

Why I love it:

Characterisation. Very well-written characters. I love them all. I cried so many times reading this novel even though it is by no means ‘tragedy‘ or ‘melo’. I have grown to love these characters over the 1,600 chapters and I’m touched by each and every one of their story and growth. Until today, I don’t have a favourite character. Not from Team Happy, and even moreso not from all the characters. I love them all. They are my babies. I would love to do a detailed introduction on them all soon! I have so, so much to share on each and every one of them.

2018 Dramas to Watch Out For!

jk-newf4presscon2-101117_0

After 17 years since the original drama aired, “Meteor Garden” is returning to our screens with these young and fresh faces.

As another good year closes, another good one (*crossing our fingers*) is coming very soon! 2017 was a really good year of dramas for me as supported by my year-end round-up. One thing to be happy about is that 2018 is already looking so good with the line-up of dramas that is getting ready to hit our screens. Join my excitement as I write about the dramas that I’m happily anticipating for this new year!

Year-End Special: 2015 Drama Round-Up (Part 1)

I’ve been looking forward to writing this ever since I got the idea in my head. In this post, I’ll be writing brief reviews about all the dramas that I watched this year. So this doesn’t necessarily mean that the dramas were all made in 2015 as the title of this post may have suggested. This is part 1 out of 2 2015 Drama Round-ups that I’ll be writing.

My year in dramas is pretty colorful which I need to highlight: 1.) I watched a lot of C-dramas more than I intended to 2.) It was my first time to watch a drama while it’s currently airing 3.) I went beyond my habit of watching C/TW dramas by watching J-dramas (yay!) 4.) It also concerns going beyond my habit: watched a period/wuxia drama for the first time! 5.) I was able to watch some dramas which have been collecting dust in my never-ending plan-to-watch list already haha! and most importantly, 6.) I started blogging about dramas!

I’ll be dividing it into parts: STORY IN A NUTSHELL (without spoilers, I promise!), POSITIVE (+) & NEGATIVE (-) things about it, and my OVERALL RATING.

So are we ready? 😀

Movie Monday: A Whole Lot of Firsts

I was supposed to create a year-end post of all the Asian movies that I watched this year but I realized that it might actually be already 2016 and I still won’t be able to finish this post haha! (I have watched 46 this year alone and counting).

Most people are into Asian dramas more than their films but there are times that I prefer the latter because it does not take so much time compared to the former. It would also be a waste if I just keep watching them and not write reviews about it. Thus, the birth of this segment!

In this first #MovieMonday, I’ll be reviewing five movies (3 Taiwanese and 2 Chinese) which deals with the theme: “Firsts”.  Go read more to find out!

[Review] C-drama: My Best Ex-Boyfriend (2015)

Consider this as the condensed version of all the recaps + other thoughts that I wrote from before here 😉

It has hit 1.5 billion views in China, so why not try and watch it? :D

It has hit 1.5 billion views in China, so why not try and watch it? 😀

Just like my First Impressions post, I’m going to divide my drama review into different sections to make it easier for both of us!

DISCLAIMER/NOTE: Since this is a review, I definitely won’t be spoiling anything because I believe that a review is mostly used by people as their basis/reference for doing (in this case, watching) something. It may either persuade or turn you off in watching this drama but I’m just here to provide my own opinions and other thoughts about it.

[Recap of Episodes 41 & 42] C-drama: My Best Ex-Boyfriend

LAST RECAP POST OF “MY BEST EX-BOYFRIEND” EVER?! Wow, time surely does fly fast! Before anything else, I just want to thank all of you for patiently reading (and waiting!) my recaps and random thoughts. If it wasn’t for you, I wouldn’t have continued writing these recaps at all. I actually never intended to write one at first since I had no experience in writing one before and because I have also been very busy. But look where we are now, I’ve literally dropped anything else to watch and write about this drama all the way to its overwhelming number (42!!) of episodes!

Special acknowledgement to Viki for subbing this drama as fast as lightning! I seriously thought that Jerry Yan fans like me would have to wait for months or so before this gets subbed but wow, they managed to finish it even earlier than China’s release. So thank you so much, Viki!

Thank you to the production team of “My Best Ex-Boyfriend” especially the cast and crew for making fans like me happy! I know that they may never get to see this but I still want to thank them for giving us a very enjoyable drama to watch.

Most importantly, thank you to all the readers! It brightens my day to see the number of views increasing every time I would post a recap and much more when people would actually comment their own opinions about the drama. Xie xie ni! 😀Screenshot 2015-09-06 00.15.26Screenshot 2015-09-06 01.15.06
