The host of Kang Xi Lai Le, Kevin Tsai (Cai Kang Yong), announced on 16 October via weibo that he will be leaving Kang Xi Lai Le for a change. Later that day, co-host Dee Hsu (Xu Xi Di), who is more commonly known as Xiao S, also announced that she will be leaving the show as the departure of Kevin Tsai will make it pointless for her to continue on without him.
The name of Kang Xi Lai Le is derived from the names of the two hosts. Kang comes from Cai Kang Yong and Xi comes from Xu Xi Di. Kang Xi is also a play on words on the Kangxi Emperor of the Qing Dynasty. Kang Xi Lai Le premièred as a talkshow in 2004 and had invited many guests from Taiwan, Hongkong and Mainland China.
With the departure of both hosts, Kang Xi Lai Le will end its run. Afterall, it does not make much sense to continue running Kang Xi without the presence of both Kang(yong) and Xi(di).
While the news that both hosts will be leaving came out in October, it is still not announced when will Kang Xi Lai Le air their final episode. My personal guess is that it will be real soon. On 21st December, the guest for the episode was Chen Handian, the side host of the show. Chen Handian is usually the ‘annoying background’ bullied by the two main hosts and this is the first time he is the main star of an episode. During the show, Xiao S mentioned that this episode exists only because Chen Handian will not be present on their finale episode.
After 2 months or so, the production team should have wrapped up pretty much everything so they should be ending soon. I’ll be sad even though I’m not a loyal fan of the show. I enjoy the occasional episode a lot and it still never fails to amaze me how daring the show and its hosts are. They are not afraid to ask very personal questions and dig for gossip even if it might be controversial. Even though their approach might make me feel uncomfortable sometimes because I feel it’s bordering on the line of bullying/offensive, it usually brings about a lot of laughter and joy which makes me forget about the discomfort.
It is sad to see this go, but let’s savour the last few episodes together and hope for better shows ahead!
this really makes me sad! I have only watched one episode with Jerry as the guest (how surprising… haha!) but I feel like no other hosts could ever match up to their fearlessness/no-holds-barred attitude. Read somewhere that Dee’s going to be in a new talk show and Barbie might be her co-host (*squeals*) but it’s still a rumor if I’m not mistaken 😮

Well, the show is really popular amongst chinese audience and after so many years, they do have a substantial following so I guess it’s no surprise there’s a big deal. Is it? Where did you read that? I’m actually not very sure.I just deduced that it was gonna be a heart to heart talk between Kevin Tsai and Xiao S from all the weibo posts etc. I might be wrong 😛
